Prospect Question
A question for all the virtual gm's. Playing a stats-only solo league (GM only) with scouting set to low I believe. I have a situation I have been thinking about at work all morning. Curious to see what other would do.
SP 22 years old in AAA. My scout says he will be a frontline starter at some point. However, he is only 22 and in my opinion his stats do not warrant a call up yet. I don't have the game open but so I don't have exact figures but his H/9 is somewhere like 9.0 a game. He strikes out more than he walks but his ratios aren't off the chart. His FIP is over 4.00. To me he still needs to be in AAA however, his mood is dark red. He is angry and feels he should be in the majors. In my manager tab I look at a projected rotation with him on the roster going into spring training (love this feature) and he would be a long reliever that isn't used in a high leverage situation. I do have room on my 40 man. Should I put him on and call him up so he gets some time in spring training and then send him back down? Will that fix his mood? I don't think it will but I'm not sure. What I'm worried about is his mood stunting his development. He is my #1 rated prospect so I don't want to mess him up. Thanks to any and all advice. |

Where in the season are you? If you are in the middle (June/July), then I would keep him at Triple-A so he gets the ball every 5th day but he would be the first guy I call up if someone gets hurt or struggles.
I would definitely add him to the 40 man roster and give him a look when the rosters expand in September, even if it's out of the bullpen or depending on your record, give him a couple starts and see how he does. When Spring Training rolls around, I would let him compete for a spot on the team, but would look for him to get the 4th or 5th spot in the rotation, otherwise he goes back to the minors to start. |

I'm at the beginning of the pre-season. My top level club is competitive so I don't think he can crack the lineup. That's really the question. Will his development be hampered if he is unhappy in AAA.

What does Morale Affect? Morale can affect a number of things in the game, including: Player performance Likelihood of the player asking for or accepting a contract extension Likelihood of the player re-signing with your team in free agency Likelihood of the player requesting or demanding a trade Likelihood that the player will demand a change in his role on the team And if you Triple-A team is competitive you could force start him as a SP there. |

Having written that part of the manual years ago, I cannot promise you that that list is all inclusive!
