Exclamation why is this player a free agent?

i am about to start year 3 of a career with geforce's rosters. after the 2004 season (the 2nd in the career), i see that my young shortstop is about ready to play, so i pencil him in as the starter for 2005. however, after hitting the proceed to next season button, i look at my team news and it says "Jose Castillo becomes a free agent". he has only played 2 years, and when i looked at my roster screen toward the end of the year, it said he would be an automatic resign. can anyone explain this one?

I'm pretty sure they said it was a bug, hopefully fixed in the patch tomorow.

Was he on a Minor League Contract before you put him in as starter? Not that I know anything about if that makes a difference, I'm personally just curious.

he was on a minor league contract, but was only 23 and had only 2 years of experience, so he should not have become a free agent.

How much money did you have left? (What about money left to sign FAs or for Extensions) Was your team broke?

I had the same thing happen to me, with more than $20 million in the bank (I was planning to make a splash in the free agent market). A 24-year-old second-year catching prospect with a minor league deal went into the free-agent pool. He also went from a four-star prospect to a two-star established player.

Don't know if this is a bug or if I'm just not getting something (the latter has been known to happen). I guess I'll find out later today.
