Ask The Computer? Do You Agree With These Results?
I'd imagine most of you let awards get passed out automatically when the season ends, but I'm skeptical of whether or not the computer is getting this right. After so many instances of closers winning Cy Young awards over starters who had perfectly acceptable Cy Young seasons, I had to intervene.
I asked the computer to decide awards winners before handing them out, just to see what they were gonna be, and I just cant get passed these two results. If Kershaw wins the NL MVP. shouldn't Fernandez, who had a superior year, win his respective MVP? Or, should neither of them win, and should it go to Arenado and Mazara? (Yes I moved the Marlins to the AL. Swapped them with TB in fact.) |

I just find it amazing that it's 2019 and all these guys are still on their same teams. Did you turn transactions off?

What I do is make transactions for other teams so that they dont make any financially imprudent decisions, like signing free agents to ridiculous contracts, or re-signing low level relievers for 3-4 million. This way teams always have space in their budget, then they re-sign the players themselves.

I think you could justify one of two AI behaviours, just depending on personal taste:
- the AI always gives the MVP to the best player - the AI tries to model real life, where the MVP is not always given to the best player, and other factors are considered I don't know how this part of the game works, but at least not too long ago, crossing the 20-win threshold was considered really meaningful in real life. I don't know if OOTP cares, and I'm not saying I think it should care, but maybe it does, and maybe that explains what you're seeing? Or maybe other things, like player popularity, are factors. That's just guesswork, no idea, but a "realistic" MVP AI will sometimes make the wrong decision. |

I am not sure who these players are (stopped watching BB after the 90s roid embarrassment), but I believe the AI also considers fielding. In this case, I would vote for the pitchers myself but I am not sure one is much better than the other. Kershaw's hr/9 is probably just as important as Fernandez' K/9 advantage albeit the later also has fewer walks which is nice.
