Adding World Championships to league

I'm not sure this is possible, but inspired by the Olympics, UEFA championship, World Cup of Hockey, i was thinking it would be really cool to be able to add a Baseball world championship to my fictional ootp universe.

If someone knows how i can add this, let me know. As far as i know i don't think you could.

My league currently in 1958, a fictional league with fic players based in north america. The player nationality is split this way.

Usa 60% Canada 20% Mexico 5% Cuba 5% with Puerto Rico, Guam, Dominican, + other South American nations making up the last 10%

Spread out over a 24 team league + 2 levels of minors and an independent league there are enough players to make a Tournament of 6 nations.

I think it would be really cool to have a yearly tournament in October after the season to crown a world champion. Over time with the growth in South America, Japan, China and Europe having the tournament expand to 10 nations.

Any thoughts?

You could have a franchise tournament thru association playoffs.

Real Answer = there is no easy way to do this.

Other Answer = The way that I've experimented with this is A TON of work and VERY time consuming. The closest I've come to getting a result that resembles what I wanted was using a Winter League that has finances turned off. You have to go through and release/delete all of the initial players in the winter league and use the editor to manually assign the individual players to the winter league team of the specific nationality. You adjust the schedule to be round robin or a set home/away ratio before playoffs. After the winter league season, you have to manually return all of the players to their teams in the main league.

The other tricky part is making sure that the winter league season does not interfere with main league's off season schedule (FA, Rule 5, arb, etc). I was doing it with reserve clause finances in the main league(s).

It was too much work for me, and I didn't ever get to playing due to how much work it was in my tests.

What ive done which is still time consuming but a little easier and doesnt allow you to keep your stats is this.

1) copy your league file
2) In copied file release all players in all leagues
3) set-up World Cup, WBC, Olympics, etc however you want it formatted
4) delete all other leagues
5) If you have each team set by nationality you can run a Free Agent draft and team will only pick player from their respected countries
6) play out tournament. Since this happens in a parallel file if does not interfere with the course of your natural offseason.

Someone who knows more about the ins and outs of OOTP maybe able to refine this process.

Note: My online League the USBA does this every 4 years for our own World Cup.

Advanced note:I also speculate using the stats.txt(?) file that one could in theory export the stats from the WC file and import these stats back into your original file but have little experience in this end of OOTP to have tested it. Would love to know more of how to refine this.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I was thinking it would be a complex format if i wanted a world championships. Like you guys have explained it seemed really tedious. I figured i would have to create a league, and manually add every player, then send them back to their respective teams after the tournament.

The hours it would take to set up a small tournament just didn't seem worth while.

Maybe its something we can see in the future for ootp games. It doesn't really add that much in terms of enjoyment to the game.

I mostly wanted to do it to see how each nation compares to each other, and how long USA could dominate the tournament as other nations grow in baseball quality.

IIRC, using the winter league strategy did show all of the stats in the players record.

Yeah i dont see any reason it wouldnt. Its just really tedious to go manually move however many teams of players back and forth
