When do I have to pay the arbitration / autorenewal?

I've been searching around the forum a bit and haven't quite found what I'm looking for. I just started the off-season with the Brewers (actually it's still the play-offs but it's the off-season for my Brew Crew), and there a few players on my 40 man roster I'm going to try to trade or if I have to just flat out release. Guys like Chris Carter are headed to arbitration, and I have other guys that I'm on the fence on with auto-renewal contracts. If I cant' trade these guys my plan is to release them, but I want to know what my drop dead date is where I don't have to pay 2017's salary. Do I need all my decisions done before arbitration begins? before spring training? before the first day of the season?

Basically, what date do 2017 contracts start?

IIRC arbitration occurs a few weeks after the World Series.

I think autorenew occurs at the same time as arb hearings.

Look under league events for the specific date of arbitration hearings. You can either edit the offer to your player, decline to offer arbitration (which makes them a free agent after the hearings) or negotiate an extension before the hearing.
