Someone ban Celebguy_dv

Spammer...big-time spammer...

I hope this doesn't become wide-spread, or these "companies" begin looking at high-traffic message boards as a way of "advertising" their services.

This is the third one I've seen in the past week.

Given the free and easy registration process, I doubt there's much .400 can do besides ban the handles once they start spamming.

The same user name was at my board tonight spamming away. In fact he is still trying to post. I had to ban him after 12 messages. Since then he has attempted to post 638 times.

It must be a bot.

100 posts a day and growing. It's like JBlaze, but with more content and logic in his posts.

It must be. Imagine what would happen if the 30 second flood-control weren't activated!

Man, you sound like a disappointed commercial.

Actually, they can ban the IP...other than that, I'm not sure.

I don't see the point really. If there's anything people know how to find on the net, it's porn. I mean, people who would actually use the net for such things.

I heard a great joke the other night on some stand-up show: "I find it disturbing that the machine I use to masturbate is the same machine I use to teach my kid the alphabet."

One thing I found out from a friend of mine who runs a vBulletin board (I'm an admin there, but was not aware of this until now) that you can ban bots from surfing this board. So, this bot, and all other bots, can get banned.

To be honest, I'm a little surprised as to why it hasn't happened just yet. If there's a detail he left out, then I understand.

well it may not bother some of us to have porn links here but it might look bad on ootp if some kids parents sees it.
I know its not their fault but you know how hard it is to explain things to parents. lol
Remember its not only adultswho play ootp.

But for me personally its just so damn annoying.

Especially since it bumps threads that have nothing new to report. Lord knows we have enough traffic on this board right now as it is.

I didn't know you could ban bots specifically. I figured there would be no way for the software to distinguish a bot from a regular member.

What sucks is that everytime one of these bots shows up, it's late and the mods are all gone.

Good point BaseballMan and we also have a couple of female OOTP members to think about. We want this to be a friendly place where everyone can come and talk about their favorite game

Not sure on either account.

I'm wondering if there is a way to monitor msg board traffic from the outside. I've been on the OOTP boards regularly for 2 years, and I've never seen a bot... until it got crazy busy a couple weeks before the release. Maybe "they" saw that this board became incredibly active, then sent in the bots.

Send innnn the bots.... they're already heeeereeee. Sorry. It's late and I'm punchy.

could be but its happening more than just once
plus its always when theres no admin.
so im guessing its someone that wasnt too liked and is trying for some juvenile revenge
Of course the bot could just be set to run overnight.

Yes you can trace the bot, just get an IP tracker or tracer and use the IP that I posted above (or on page 1). It is the same bot, with the same IP.

The bot also hit our forums and they are not high traffic at all, so I am guessing that this is just a random event not having anything to do with the recent release of the game.
