No, it should work if you installed correctly. What is the message you get?

i get 2 in succesion

"OOTP cannot load this database because the file world.dat is missing"

"the Loading of the data base failed. it is either corrupt or save game from an old version"

i went back to the last beta client. save worked fine on that version. with the new version both the steam one and the non-steam one i get this. i use windows 10.

Ok i found the problem this was not a bug. what happend was that after updating to the new version it showed the option to contiune my old sav file but what i hadn't realized is that the save path had change so that was why my save file would not load.

so no bug.

I'm having this same problem after I just downloaded the update. How was this problem resolved?

And now I have created a new file to try to find the save location, and I cannot find where the file has been saved. I tried to open the folder from the program and I got an error message that says the location is "unavailable" but somehow I can still continue the game from this new file. I still cant figure out how to use my old file

So the update was installed to a different folder path?

The folder paths all seem the same to me, except this new file I created is nowhere to be found. My old file is there but for some reason it won't load. It says because it is from a previous version......

Is the actual data path the same? For example if one were to install an OOTPD direct download version and a Steam version of v17 they would point to different data paths. I have them both pointing to the one you see greyed out (I don't know why) here. Basically D:\OOTP17\data.

I have the direct download version for both my original download and the update, however I don't have anything listed in that custom data path bar, should there be something there?

Edit: I've reinstalled the update and now everything is there

Not necessarily. If it is blank it will point to where the OOTPxx.exe is and the subfolders below ..\data\saved_games. However if you inadvertently install the exe file to another folder or the default folders after previously using a custom folder as I do, it will build that path given above. I've had a situation where the path to my games was nested under the original path and it took me a while to find them.

My suggestion is; find the saved games you want in your file manager and point OOTP via the screen shot to the data folder above them.

This might not apply to you. Just an educated guess based on what the reported symptoms are.

I believe what I did was when updating I think I inadvertently made the file path slightly different, because since I reinstalled the update, everything is working perfectly and all my files are present. Thanks for your help!
