Colored Baseballs

On the Baseball transaction screen there are colored baseballs defining the strength of the individual positions.
I cannot find out how the colors rank in strength of positions,

Not familiar with that screen. Can you post a screenshot or a menu list to get there.

I think he's talking about the trade screen. Next to each team is a position listing for the MLB and for prospects in the farm. Then there are colored baseballs denoting the strength of said position.

I believe the breakdown is as follows:
Red: Very Weak
Yellow: Average/Below Average
Green: Above Average/Strong
Blue: Excellent

So if you have blue Pros and yellow Minors for SP it means your current starters at the pro level are fantastic, but you don't currently have any highly regarded starting pitching prospects.

This gives you a good idea what to offer when you're looking to deal with a team.

FYI my color valuations are based off of what I have seen. I could be off, but it usually seems to match what I listed above.

Probably due to my laziness, I liked it better when there was verbiage on the trade screen about the other team's needs.

I never thought of those as baseballs. They looked like mis-colored stop lights to me. But, yes the explanation above is true.
