Financials/Trading Off
I've shared this before, but not for a while but I figured I would share the way I enjoy playing again.
Settings 8 team league Financials off Trading off Injuries on Exit auto play when a player is injured for 2 weeks (my own rule) Maximum 25 minor league players No DH The end result is that every player that you draft ends up being on your team for their entire career, since there are no "contracts". Players can still be released and undrafted players signed from free agency. I enjoy that when you go into the draft in June, you'll be drafting players for the long haul, for HS players that are 17 they could be in your organization for 20+ seasons. It's very rewarding drafting a player that turns out to be a stud in the 4th or 5th round, or crushing if you draft a player that busts with a top 3 pick. With only having 5 picks per draft, you have to draft not only the best players, but for organizational need. You need to have 25 guys in your minor league system that can step in if there is an injury, or have the potential to do just that. So the minor league roster becomes very important. When you have to keep a limit of 25 minor leaguers, it forces you to cut the crap that will never make it even as depth players, or old players that used to be good (but are now bad). The only "problem" I've run into is that it's very difficult to build a sustainable winning team, because if you are winning 90+ games a season for 5+ years then the other teams in your division will likely be losing under 70, getting top picks and stacking their teams for the future. Then when you have to go through a transitional phase when the older players are declining, the teams that had been at the bottom before will be stronger now with stud players. It's not really a problem though and more or less just a part of the game, and makes building a sustainable winner (the ultimate goal) that much more difficult. It's also pretty sucky you can't change the division names and are stuck with "division 1"
But I guess all you guys who have been playing fictional have been dealing with this forever. Anyway I'm giving this style a try..... |
