Besides, you can add your own backstory on how the player has got the nickname/ For example, he really likes samba (Brazilian dance, that is) so he is sambo.

I have seen the same nickname being used for 3 different players. "Secretary of state" is the nickname in question for me. Not joking. the funny thing is that this nickname for me all 3 were relievers

This game is designed by people who live in Europe. I believe that's correct.
So we can't assume the words you don't like, don't mean the same thing to them.
In the UK they call a cigarette a fag.

I live in the US, and have never in my life heard that as a slur towards anyone of any race.

Pretty sure I could nitpick many nicknames this game throws out and go overtly PC.

It's definitely a slur. A bit old-fashioned and not used much anymore, in my experience, but definitely a slur.

It's an old-timey slur for inappropriate historical leagues
