How does 3-year average work in historical?

I have Troy Neel as a stud first baseman for the A's in the early 1990's. Problem is, he played all of 3 years in MLB and then disappeared forever (Japan, to be exact). How does the OOTP engine use its 3-year average when rating players, especially once they accrue no more statistics historically? I assume the 3-year average is the year before, the current year, and the year after in question.

Any help is appreciated. I've always wanted to know how OOTP treats historical players in this regard.

The OOTP Development engine takes over when a players history runs out. Might turn out to be avg, good, poor player.

Adds another level of fun I think, seeing guys have different careers then they did irl.

This only happens if dev is on.

A straight recalc game has the player last year stats continue indefinitely

I dont see how that is true. This league was started with 1999 MLB on OOTP 13. So Taveres was in teh minors but played on the Cardinals in this league. Shouldn't he have been a .239 hitter throughout based on what you say?

Hey game.
You know it may turn on automatic in 2016 when it knows there are no stats for any player.
But during a carrer with recalc on never seen a change for a bill keister or Ed delehanty ect.

Will settle this later in the week. Will run a 1901 to 1910 sim and post the results if any player ratings for such players changed or not.

What were his ratings, not his stats when his career ended IRL.

It's honestly kind of spooky seeing Taveras go off and become an All-Star in people's games. What a shame, because he could've been a special player.

Completely unrelated to the topic but I just had to comment after seeing that.
