End of Season 40 Man Roster Cleanup

When can I remove my September call ups from the 40 man roster? I had this problem last year and ended up carrying players I didn't want to.

I am trying to do it on the last day of the season and realize that might be too soon, but I am not sure what the deadline to do so is either.

Maybe it is the way I am doing it? I go to each name, right-click it, go to transactions and select Remove from 40 Man Roster. I get the message that I can't because he has a major league contract. Of course he does, once they are called up in September the get the league minimum, but when can I go there and not get that message?

Or should I slide them to the bottom of the page like it says when I try to slide them out of the 40 Man box on the Roster Transaction page? I feel like if I do that they are going to go to DFA. Maybe that is the trick, move them to DFA and then move them back to the minors?

I have had success in previous seasons and don't remember that being the method. Any help would be much appreciated.

In full disclosure, I am still on v16 but I don't think that should be the issue. Although, I guess I could also say that I don't believe I had this problem until v16.

Thanks

The only way to remove players from the 40-man is to pass them through waivers. If you just want to demote your September call-ups, leave them on the 40-man and demote then to AAA. If you want to send them to the minors and not pay them a major league salary the next season, the only way to do that would be to pass them through waivers
