A Hearty Congratulations To The OOTP Team

Just wanted to stop by and tell Markus and all the gang to exhale now .. you launched this year. And a big congrats on that.

If you'll look at my join date over there .. and my e-mail ootp3league@hotmail.com .. I've been around for a long, long time. In fact, if you can go back to the manual in OOTP3, you'll find my name in the credits as helping design the online portion of the game. We did that with the old Sundown Baseball League, the granddaddy of all leagues. It was the first to use OOTP online and we had a ball with it. We had Steve and Markus and Doug Johnson, the lead designer of FPSBBPRO98 and Shaun Sullivan and Rob Smolka sports editor at PC Gamer. We had everybody. It was intense! We were all just figuring out how to use this whole Internet thing with OOTP.

For the record, the Cleveland Indians .. skippered by that Squonk guy .. beat Doug Johnson's SF Giants in the first ever World Series online for OOTP. I am also a radio announcer in Cleveland Ohio and I did the play-by-play of each game of the World Series over REAL MEDIA (if you can believe that). Doug and I managed each game live through the league chat room. And all the media guys commented on the moves in real time. It was somethin' else.

It was a hell of a show.

I bet it's been 15 years since I have been a part of an online OOTP league. I kinda miss it. I had a ball. Sundown was a league like no other .. it could never be repeated again because of all of the extremely high profile programmers, journalists and media luminaries that were a part. It was the Genesis of online leagues for OOTP. The first ... and you never forget your first.

So, there's your history lesson for today.

OOTP 17. We couldn't have envisioned such a thing back then.

You all are to be congratulated. I come here from time to time and fill my soul with gladness and joy to see such a vibrant community that has grown from such small seeds.

Markus .. you should join some random online league as Colonel Klink. Take the White Sox. I'll join the same league as Colonel Hogan and take the Tribe.

Then, we could beat on each other for other people's amusement.
