GCL Dynasty

Sorry I couldn't come up with a better name, but here's my goal. Starting as a manager in the GCL Rookie level. Going to work my way up as a manager hopefully to the majors.

I started in OOTP 16 and fell in love with it immediately.

Alright so here's what's happened so far. I've started as the manager for the GCL Cardinals Rookie team. The talent level is meh for the Cards GCL team but I'm doing what I can. A lot of taken pitches, hit and runs, and pitching to contact to avoid walking everybody.

Game 1: vs. the Marlins win 6-5
Record 1-0

Tyler Kolek started for the Marlins. Threw 3 innings and walked 7. Couldn't find the zone and I just took a bunch of pitches. He only gave up 2 hits but 3 runs in those 3 innings.

Jordan Hicks threw a solid 6 innings for me giving up 3.

My only right fielder, Sanel Rosendo, got hurt in the second inning of the game and is set to miss 2 weeks.

Bo Bichette, going to be the best player for the GCL Cards, goes 2-3 with 2 walks and 2 runs and 1 stolen base.

Game 2: vs. GCL Mets loss 9-5
Record: 1-1

Ian Oxnevod struggled early and often. Just one inning pitched allowing 7 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk. Everything was falling for the Mets in the first. Kyle Serrano held the Mets down for 5 innings out of the pen giving up just 1 run while striking out 4.

Bo Bichette goes 1-4 with a stolen base to give him 2 on the year.

Game 3: vs. GCL Nationals loss 15-1
Record: 1-2

Oh buddy. Not a pretty one for the GCL Cards. Garrett Gooden, the starting pitcher for the Cards gets shelled, can't find the zone, and generally does nothing right. Goes 3.2 giving up 9 hits, 12 earned runs, and walking 5.

First baseman Tyler Calvert leads the way offensively for the Cards with 2 doubles.

Bo Bichette extends his hitting streak* to 3 games.

* Yes it's early but in Rookie ball I'm counting it as a small victory

Game 4: vs. GCL Astros win 7-3
Record: 2-2

The GCL Cards bounce back from 2 shellackings to beat the 'Stros 7-3 in a road game. This puts the Cards at 2-0 on the road and 0-2 at home. In front of a small crown of just 808 Cory Campbell gets his first hit of the year, along with his second, and his third on his way to a 3-5 day with 3 doubles, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Dustin Baber goes 6 for the Cards giving up 8 hits, 3 earned runs, walking 2 and striking out 2. Solid, but not spectacular outing.

The defense shined for the Cards in this one turning 5, yes 5, double plays.

Bo Bichette loses his hitting streak in this one going 0-4.

Will keep posting as the season goes on.

Game 5: Vs. Marlins Loss 15-4
Record: 2-3

Ben Brecht struggles in his first start of the year going just 2 innings and giving up 11 hits and 10 earned runs. Paul Salazar comes out of the pen and throws a solid 3 innings giving up 5 hits and just 1 run.

Matt Cole has been a pleasant surprise for the Cards early on, carrying a .421 average through 5 games playing second base. With that .421 average he has 4 RBIs and 3 steals.

Bo Bichette goes 1-4 bringing his average down to .263 but he picks up his third steal of the season.

Game 6: Vs. Mets Loss 3-1
Record: 2-4

Jordan Hicks goes out and throws an incredible 6.2 giving up just 4 hits and 2 runs, both unearned. Leaves the game after an injury ended his day early.

Catcher Dylan Melendez leads the way offensively for the Cards going 3-5 while both Tyler Calvert, 1st base, and Matt Cole go 2-4. Calvert brings in the only run for the Cards.

Tough loss for the Cards with 9 hits and leaving 12 on base. Not a way to win many games. A dropped fly ball led to 2 runs for the Mets.

The Cards look to rebound against first place Washington before a DH against the winless Astros.

News from the front office indicates that Jordan Hicks is out for 3 weeks with a sore shoulder.

Game 7: Vs. Nationals Loss 5-0
Record: 2-5

The GCL Cards struggled today with hitting the ball as well as throwing it. The team managed one hit, which came in the 5th on a Cory Campbell single. The starting pitcher, Ian Oxnevad, made improvements from his first start of the season. Oxnevad went 5 giving up 11 hits and 5 runs.

Before the game, management sent Andres Luna and Luis Flores from the Cards Dominican Summer League team while releasing 35 year old pitcher Ronald Medrano, who had not yet made an appearance for the GCL Cards.
