Random Debut--Inaugural Draft

Any chance we could get one more option added to the setup wizard for random debut, allowing us to select how many players we want to import as part of the inaugural draft? Right now a set number imports when you create a random debut league. I like to play with injuries set to at least normal, but more often than not, I use high realistic. Therefore, I would love it if I could have more players import for the inaugural draft. What I do now is, I pick a start year that features more teams than I want to use. Once I've created my league and the players have imported, I restructure the league to a smaller size. By deleting teams, the teams I keep are awarded deeper rosters making it possible to use a normal injury setting.

That's a really good idea. Your workaround is pretty clever too.

44 players isn't enough? I know you like to use High (Realistic) injuries for your injury settings, but I've never seen a problem in my game. Maybe I'm not looking closely enough. I still think this is a good suggestion though. I guess I've just become so used to the original 44 man roster that I've never asked the question. Good on ya!

I would prefer at least enough for teams to draft 55-60 players. 25 regular roster with 30-35 on reserve. Big pet peeve of mine to see guys play out of position. Example, say a team with 44 total players features only 3 catchers and 2 quickly go down with injuries. Whammo, you now have a team forced to use 1 guy every game regardless of fatigue. Or they can catch Lou Whitaker or Tom Veryzer if the only catcher they have is tired.

Very well then, it's settled. Your idea of being able to select an amount of players per team as chosen by the user in the game setup, plus improved draft AI to make sure all positions are properly represented on each roster.

May I make another suggestion? Uncheck the box that says "Use pre-determined draft value for AI" in the amateur draft settings section. Just for the inaugural draft. Turn it back on again for your amateur draft(s).

The reason is you want the draft AI freed up to make the best selections it can, rather than selecting some guy because a number in the database tells it to. Also using it will raise some elder statesmen, who (let's face it) are on the downside of their careers, higher in the draft than they should be. When you're doing an amateur draft, this is not a problem because all the players involved have their entire careers in front of them, and this is the way to get proper talent dispersal.

Your door into the draft If you buy ring OK brought you by ring How much are you struck about the complexity of the draft itself in and seeing these relationships come out of your investigation I was most struck by the fact that The draft can be so some extent tweaked

Most of my random debuts are fictional in nature as far as setup and teams. I would love to be able to start in 1975 with a modern day 30 team setup. Minus the nonsense of relievers pitching to one batter of course.

Then tie your strategy settings to the year of your choice when bullpens were used in a sensible fashion. I've noticed that even with 1984 strategy settings, closers are still only pitching about 70 innings per year, but at least I don't get any of the one batter nonsense.

I did notice that when I did a Montreal log on some other forum. Still I would still have one guy pitch 100 as a reliever. I just can't remember who. (I think it was Roy Face though)
Wait it was Roy Face.(Just looked on that forum)

Good suggestion for random debut. Also, if you edit the adjust or weaken limits for batters (ab) or pitchers (ip), these limits get reset to the default values the next time you load the game. Is supposed to be fixed? (Yes, it's a minor issue).

reason for editing: see actionjackson post :/

I'm not sure I understand the question here Hoiles. Could you rephrase it so I can figure out what you're talking about? It could be that I'm a bit slow.

I'd never noticed this. I thought it stayed the same once you finished setting up the game. Learn something new every day. Though I'm not sure where I'd find this in the settings - I've never seen it after I set my game up.

I see they're at default whenever I import historical players into my game, but I never put two and two together that it might be bringing players into the amateur draft like this, which would be wrong seeing as I set it up for 200/50 AB and 40/10 IP rather than 300/50 AB and 40/10 IP. It is a minor issue that becomes more major if you use a shorter schedule, so hopefully it's fixed. *fingers crossed*

The AB/IP limits show when you import a player as a free agent (with commish mode on).

It happens when you import a historical player into your draft pool as well - same process, so why wouldn't it? This is definitely not good news for those that play with shorter season leagues, and it does make me wonder if players in the amateur draft are coming in with default AB/IP limits, which would be a problem (a minor one yes, but a problem) because I use slightly different settings than the default, not much but slightly.

Perhaps a friendly nudge would be helpful? I used to play a ton of random debut and liked playing around with the features but switched to a present-day league last year so I didn't really press the issue.

I never edit those make bad settings. Last time I did it, Herb Score struck out close to 500 in one season and Ty Cobb hit close to .450 two seasons in a row. I just use the default settings now.

Hmmm...Maybe that's why Mr. Score holds my all-time single season record for Ks with 369. I suppose he did blow up real good just like in real life after he got hit in the head by the line drive.

369 is cool. I think he had 489 or higher for me. It was just bizarre. Not sure what version of the game it was, definitely not 16.
