Coaching decisions

Not sure if this is the best place to put this but I noticed some weird coaching decisions and figured it might be a good idea to have a thread where people can post what they are seeing with regards to a.i. coaching to help the developers have it all in one place. There is definitely a lot going on with the engine so this isn't necessarily to say what should definitively be right or wrong, but I think it will help to open up the discussion and make this the best possible game.

To start from my end, I started a game as the Rangers and chose to be gm only. The first thing I noticed was that the coaches didn't have Keith Yandle anywhere on the powerplay. I noticed his major role was set to defensive defenceman so changed it to offensive defenceman and he was put on the 2nd unit after I did that. However, based on his ratings I don't see any reason why he isn't the first option on the point.

His main offensive ratings, and the players ahead of him on the first unit are:

Passing - Puckhandling - Shooting Accuracy - Shooting Range - Offensive Read
Keith Yandle: 18 - 18 - 9 - 17 - 18
Dan Boyle: 15 - 16 - 10 - 17 - 17
Kevin Hayes: 15 - 15 - 16 - 8 - 15

So Yandle has +5 stat points in those major categories over Boyle and 11 over Hayes.

What makes Hayes even more suspicious is that the only thing he has over yandle is shooting accuracy over range, but when talking about someone on the point I'd imagine youd want someone who is a bit of a threat with his shot up there.

I find the whole Role/Game rating model a bit clunky to handle in the game. Not being able to change the role due to tactical considerations such as an injury, or a specific opponent takes some of the coaching strategy out of my hands. Also, I would like the option to either have the team try to match lines or just roll them. At this point this is not available.

I had a case when Klein was out with an injury, Stoll was double shifted on the 3rd & 4th lines and Oscar Lindberg played defense, because the coach didn't choose to dress McIlrath.

I like the idea of player roles in the game but I personally think we need more control in that regard or maybe they need re-worked. I asked about roles in another thread and it sounds like there are multiple things involved when ai is calculating player roles. I'm guessing it is the same when ai is assigning lines. I have seen many line combinations done by the computer that don't make sense, I think it would be better if we could pick roles for players and lock them so the ai doesn't change them.
