Non-Roster Free Agent Spring Invitations

I know that non-roster invitees are permitted for our minor league players not on the 40 men roster but we can't offer a marginal free agent a tryout during spring training.
The option to offer free agents a tryout with the hope of making the team is the most interesting part of spring training in real life.

AFAIK in real life all invitations to ST involve signing a minor league contract. That can be done in game. It makes sense as teams probably carry some sort of blanket liability insurance on contracted players using ST facilities. I'd bet that ST invitees may have to insure themselves for anything outside baseball activities. The last link clearly indicates that non-internal, non-roster players signed minor league deals with the yankees.
