Ratings - Stats Only Hybrid

Hey guys,

I've been playing OOTP for the past couple years using standard ratings but have found myself too concentrated on the ratings.

I prefer to play the standard MLB games.

With it in mind that the usual stats only doesn't really work for MLB games because of drafting, any recommendations for a way to play being more stats focused?

I was thinking Overall - off, Potential - stars, Potential ratings - 2 to 8, other player ratings - 2 to 8...

and here's the big one, player actual ratings - 2 to 8...

My thinking is GMs in real life have scouts who'd give them a numerical estimations of a players skill so its more realistic to have it on.

What do you guys think?

I'm also thinking of doing the Wolf's 10/60/20/10 ratings (as mentioned in the 'Kudos' thread) as I think it would work well with this kind of hybrid set up.

Any other suggestions for hybridization?

Turn off ratings and potential. Leave "other ratings" on--you choose the scale.

For drafting, I temporarily turn overall/potential ratings on and put it on a 20-80 scale, just like they are IRL.

Hmm, makes sense.

But soon after the draft, how would you keep track of the stat-less draftees? - for what reason you drafted them, what you saw in them that made you draft them

I personally like actuals off, potentials as stars and 2-8. Then you always see potentials, but you need to check stats to see how close they are to actually reaching that potential.

I find playing with no ratings too much work, but my above is a good balance with a good fog of war as well.

But I think the key is to simply play around with what you want. If you want ratings on, I won't stop you

I play with Overall and Potential ratings on, in the form of stars (with AI Eval set to 10/50/30/10), actual and potential ratings off, and other ratings on, using the 2-8 scale. I find it gives me a good balance; the star ratings give me an at-a-glance overview of how a player is doing/projected, while not being enough to get me caught up in the ratings.

This is just how I like to play; like Matt, I suggest experimenting and determining what feels best to you.

Matt's right: play around with everything until you finally get the game that you want.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
