Fictional Question

I've always played real players, but my leagues don't seem to hold my interest long. Probably because of my pre-conceived ideas of what teams / players should be doing. So, I am going to try the fictional route.

I am thinking of real teams and fictional players, starting in 1970. I would like the league to follow real MLB expansion, team moves, etc, but I don't want "fictional" re-locations or other events. I'd like the stats and finances to follow historical trends, but use current free agency rules. A few questions:

Is the easiest way to set this up to create a historical league, delete all players and personnel, and then add fictional players, etc?
Will this also create fictional free agents?
Will there be new fictional players generated each year?
Will the league automatically update each year with real team moves, expansion, stat modifiers, etc? Or will I have to do it manually?
Finally, is there a quick way to generate stats for fictional players, other than simming through years?

OK. I feel dumb. I've never used the league setup tools before and as it turns out most of my questions were answered in that process.....
