How Long Would You Rehab A SP.
Just had a SP come off of the DL after almost a year on it with Tommy John? surgery. My minor leagues only have 6 games left and i am approaching September 1st callups. Wondering if i should use him as a SP or MR when he comes back to the ML after SEP 1st. I have a 19 game lead over the 2nd place team. My #5 while effective isn't great although his ERA is only 3.12. Wondering how i can use this guy. Also if I were to call this guy back up before Sep 1st, he would be eligible for the playoff roster correct?

I use him out of the pen for the remainder of the year. With a 19 game lead, it's not like you're in a chase and need to push him.

2-3 starts then make sure he is on the active roster Aug 31.

Give him 1 rehab start and test him out. If he's not horrible, then experiment further by calling him up and making him a MR. 19 game lead lets you have many options.

That's a good plan.

Usually when I rehab a player, I will look at their performance and wait to see when they are looking good. For example, If a pitcher strings two nice starts in a row, then you move him up. If a position player gets hot, move him up. Usually it ends up well for me

With six games left in the AAA schedule, he should be able to get in two starts. Unless he looks like a complete disaster, I'd then call him up in time for playoff eligibility, put him in the bullpen for a while, then see what he can do in the rotation (assuming that your guys don't blow a 19 game lead).
If his outings in AAA are horrible, my inclination would be to fill that slot on the playoff roster with someone who isn't a gamble. After all, the rest of your team must be pretty decent. Last edited by TomVeal; 04-07-2015 at 08:11 AM. Reason: Typo correction |

if the player that was brought up was HOT then I would keep the player on rehab assignment as long as possible why mess with success (wins) unless you feel short rehab be more value or need him back ASAP then no need for rehab

Well the AI put him at AA for a rehab start but after played a game he was moved to AAA and will start tomorrow. I put him on a 60 pitch count. He is signed through 2023 and will compete for the #3 spot.

Not sure if this has changed in v16 but in v15 I seem to remember the game not treating a player on Rehab as still being on the DL. When you put him on rehab he came off the DL and that could mess with his playoff eligibility. Hopefully that has changed in v16. IRL a player is still on the DL when going on a rehab assignment.

Not if he is on the 60 day and has not played at all that season.
