2003 Rosters: Give Me Some Test Prospects

I am in the midst of adjusting my spreadsheets (for formulas, not to be used for importing) to develop ratings for players based on 2002 performance. I want to see if the ratings come out well. This sheet has been adjusted specifically for OOTP, so it will spit out current and potential ratings. I want to run some test prospects through the sheet just to see if we like the ratings. I may not get to run the guys through until later in the week, but the sooner I can get sheets done, the sooner I can start on ratings for 2003. I only have the hitter sheets done now, so please limit this to a) 2 prospects per person, and b) hitters ONLY. I will do this for pitchers once that sheet is done too, but first I need to do hitters.

Thanks!

OK, current and potential ratings for Brandon Phillips and, being a Mets fan, Jose Reyes.

Code:
Phillips (Potential on top, current on bottom):
AB H 2B 3B HR BB SO AVG
550	161	35	0	24	35	87 0.293
550	132	29	0	20	29	103	0.24

Reyes
AB H 2B 3B HR BB SO AVG
550	168	30	12	6	39	87 0.305
550	126	23	9	5	29	109 0.229
They look pretty good to me. Mets fans eager to see Reyes rushed should not be expecting huge offense from this kid yet. If he develops as scouts seem to think, he may develop more power, but as I have said before I am a big believer in going by what a guy has done, not how they hope he grows/matures.

These guys are actually pretty similar, though Phillips certainly has more power potential. Neither have shown an inclination to draw a heck of a lot of walks either. Odds are that both will have solid careers though, with Phillips more of an immediate help.

Thoughts, comments, questions, whatever fire away. More guys you want me to run through, let me know. I need to see from more prospects, but from this limited sample I like it.

here are a couple more... Carl Crawford (TB) and Marlon Byrd (PHI)

Code:
Crawford
550	156	25	8	6	26	83	0.284
550	128	21	7	5	21	98	0.233

Byrd
550	172	33	6	28	55	96	0.313
550	141	27	5	23	45	113	0.256
Byrd is the real deal, I think. Get this guy in there.

Was going to suggest him myself. And Luke Allen (LA) who tore it up in Winter ball this year, although he probably still isn't a great prospect.

If I don't have Buck and Thurston out by 6:30 I'll get to them later tonight or tomorrow.

In the meantime, here are two more I figured I would throw out there, one of whom I'm not sure we really call a "prospect" anymore.

Code:
Juan Rivera (NYY)
AB	H	2B	3B	HR	BB	SO	AVG
550	177	39	2	28	31	77	0.322
550	145	32	2	23	25	91	0.264

Corey Patterson (CHC)
AB	H	2B	3B	HR	BB	SO	AVG
550	145	32	4	19	31	113	0.264
550	139	28	5	13	18	132	0.253

Here's Buck, I'll get to other guys later or tomorrow.
BUck isn't ready yet, but he should be a good one.

Code:
John Buck (again, potentials on top, current on bottom)

ok, first from the list...

Code:
Joe Thurston (LA)
AB	H	2B	3B	HR	BB	SO	AVG
550	174	34	7	11	35	53	0.316
550	143	28	6	9	29	63	0.26

Luke Allen (LA)
AB	H	2B	3B	HR	BB	SO	AVG
550	169	32	3	18	56	93	0.307
550	139	26	2	15	46	110	0.253

Brandon Larson (CIN)
AB	H	2B	3B	HR	BB	SO	AVG
550	167	34	1	43	40	139	0.304
550	137	28	1	35	33	164	0.249
I like Thurston's ratings a lot. I like Allen's too, though that potential average could be a bit high (however, he hit 34 and 57 points above the league average the past two years, respectively). Larson had a ridiculous year this year, so his ratings are blown up somewhat. He's also old for "prospect" status. I may need to adjust the age factor in these calculations. I probably have more questions about Larson's ratings than anyone's who I have sampled thus far.
