Historic word_default files - US/Canada
As discussed in this thread, I've created some updated world_default files for use for US-based historic leagues.
Because the world_default file is far too large to post here, I've included only a subset of it in each file below. If you like the data, simply cut and paste into the applicable section of the full world_default file. As my league starts in 1890, I use population data from about 20 years prior so that players created are reflective of the decade in which they were most likely born. As such, the files below are for 1870. I'll post some later data as I get there in my league. What has been modified in these files: * Ethnicities have been set to 100% Caucasian (5% French for Canada) * The population data has been updated per the 1870 US Census and the 1871 Canadian census. This update is at the nation and state level ONLY. Cities have not been updated. As such, you will find birthplaces in OOTP from cities that didn't exist in 1870. Updating all cities was just too onerous a task. NOTE THAT States or Territories that did not exist in 1870 have been removed from the file. So, there is no Alaska, Hawaii, or Oklahoma, nor is there British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta, etc. To progress into future decades, you can simply add these states -- with their proper state id -- back into the file, updating the populations as you go. If you want to update city populations, let me know. I'll gladly take advantage of your work! ![]() Any questions, ask. Last edited by cbbl; 05-28-2021 at 07:36 PM. |

Has it been determined if just altering the state population and not the individual cities within the state will give you the distribution by state that you want? I guess my question is once you establish what nation a player is to be created from does the game look at state's or cities first to determine his location of birth?

The game does it sequentially. So, within the nation, it first looks to state populations to determine how many should be from each state. Then, within the state, it looks to city data. So--you can at least get players at a correct proportion by state, but the cities will not be accurately represented unless you update all of those populations -- something I may very well do (albeit slowly).
