I've noticed that in OOTP4 players are not considered rookies if they are over a certain age (25 maybe?, i forget). If I am correct, there are no limits like this is the MLB. Will this be fixed? Can't wait until Friday!

I think you're thinking of "prospect" status.
Players drop of the prospect list once they hit 26, but I'm almost certain they can still qualify for ROY, etc. |

well..i know that once i had a 30 year old come up in his first year and he put up outstanding numbers. so i went to the league leaders and selected rookies and yet he didn't show up....he didn't win the award either. this has happened a couple of times...anyone else notice this?

If they're over 25 (i think that's the cut off) they'll show up on the rookie leader board and they are eligible to set rookie records; but they won't be eligible for the Rookie of the Year award.
i wish this would change. |

Hmmmm... contradicting info on the leaderboard front.
ms2002, any chance your guy didn't get enough AB to qualify for the leaderboard? He would need 550 I believe. |

Hmm I have had Socks Seybold win the Rookie of the Year (almost always setting rookie records for HR & RBI) many times when I sim the 1901 season and Socks is 30 during the 1901 seaon.

I just had a 31 year old pitcher win rookie of the year.
I know 25 seems to be the cutoff for "Top 100 Prospects" list but atleast in my games I have had a number of 26 and 27 yearolds win the rookie of the year and like I said above, today a 31 year old won it. |

I've had guys over 30 win plenty of times. I even once had a 41-year-old ROY.

Hmmm...
Any idea why the ai would not choose a ROY for a league? i wrote an article for our league at the last season and here's a list of what i thought were the top five rookies.
Northern League Rookie of the Year 1. Chuck Johnson CST (13-8, 4.03, 165) 2. Steve Ogorman ALC (12-11, 3.51, 134) 3. Dave Schreffler GEO (9-3, 2.73, 122) 4. Robby Baugman RIV (.295, 9, 56, 0) 5. Paul Doggett RIV (.280, 2, 32, 7) Chuck Johnson was 34 and he had 19.1 innings pitched in his career before the season started. Steve Ogorman was 30 and he had 22.1 innings pitched in his career before the season started. Dave Schreffler was 31 and he had 19.1 innings pitched in his career before the season started. Robby Baughman was 29 and he had 65 at bats in his career before the season started. Paul Doggett was 26 and he had 27 at bats in his career before the season started. If we looked at leaders and specified rookies they were listed there. But none were selected. In the other league, a pitcher, Mark Boulay, won with a 10-13 record and an ERA around 4.50 and he was 25. So we guessed it was an age thing. Last edited by Dark Horse; 02-24-2003 at 05:26 PM. |

How many seasons were those players in the majors before their first seasons? Also, if they were players in a fictional league at the very beginning, they might have been given an experience value other than 0.

All of them had been in the league one season. It's probably the experience value that got us. Thanx.
Is there any way of seeing the experience value in the game? |

You'll need to use Pierre's player editor to edit the experience value. It's a big help, because sometimes OOTP will give a guy more year's of experience then he actually has. Especially is this true for created players. Sometimes the news page will say a player has won an award for the first time in his 20 year career and the guy is only in his second year. When that happens I know I have to edit the experience value.
