Questions about Online play

Well, I've played OOTP for some time, and have for a while thought about being in an online league, but am a bit intimidated, mainly due to ignorance.

I was wondering if anyone wanted to take the time to explain what exactly it entails. How does it work exactly, not technically, but what does one do as an owner that's different than during single play? How does simulation work, I realize managers submit linups and such, but what then, and for how long, etc...

I guess I have lots of stupid questions. If anyone feels like humoring me I'd appriciate it.

Not sure specificaly what you are asking. If you could clarify a bit I would be more than happy to answer them.

For me it is alot like solo play when it comes to making sure your lineups and all are watched, the main difference. HUMAN competition. This is what makes online leagues so much fun is going up against other guys or girls from around the globe. Having to outwit them down the stretch. As for the dblc we sim 15 days 3 times a week on mon, wed, fri. Everyone sends in their exports and then i process any trades before the sim and then sim live via aim so that everyone can see game by game how they are doing if they wish to come to the live sims. Makes for great rivalry's when you are trash talking in the final sim and a game out of the playoffs.

I guess I was wondering things like what KC answered, how often are games simmed.

And I guess then, what is done before hand? You set your lineups, that makes sense. I assume trades are done via email and then the commish is told then?

I guess I have very few specific questons, more just trying to get a feel for what it would be like.

To get a decent feel for what some of that is like visit some of the league links in the different signatures around this board. Read the rules page and browse the message board.

The basics are that you 1)download a league file, 2)save that to your computer, 3)set your line-ups, 4)export your line-up via FTP (or via email attachment), 5)check the results after the sim, 6)start the process over.

Of course, trades (negotiated via email, instant messaging or the boards) occur, owners post stories or news about their teams and players, discussions/arguments break out on the boards concerning everything imaginable, etc.

Most people try on-line and never go back to solo. Many still keep a solo league or two on the side. A few may even hate their on-line experience, but I would bet it was rare.

Have a read of my old (written for OOTP2) online league tutorial in the FAQ forum .....

http://www.400softwarestudios.com/bo...&threadid=5493

The basic concepts remain the same with OOTP5, with the main differences being the ability to FTP lineups and free agents bids.
