Playoff Format

I run a 32 team, 4 division league. See the image. We play 80 games, with an unbalanced schedule (overweight to number of division games).

We have 23 games left in the season.

Right now, I have only each division winner qualifying for the playoffs. What would you do? My other consideration is having the top two teams from each division play for a "Division Championship." I'm open to suggestions and this is the inaugural season, so I would like to get it right. Kind of cool to have the season have a lot of meaning, with only one division winner qualifying. But I think having a Division Championship could be fun too.

Thoughts?

just my 2 cents
but I never liked 2 division winners playing. A team can be second in its division with 110 wins. not make the playoffs- while an 80 win team from the other can win it all

My suggestion. Add 1 wildcard.
Set playoff for seeding, so the wildcard plays the lowest div winner in a best of 3.
Top team gets a buy. Winner plays the top team. Usually 2 div winners play for the champ anyway, but now the lower win div winner had to earn it.

i like the idea of east winner hosts west runner up, west winner hosts east runner up. winners play for league championship.

I like this idea, and I used it before. It was fun. The problem is that OOTP has problems with tie-breakers when a wild-card winner is also tied for the division championship. That's one of the reason I switched to not having the wild-card. I'm not sure if this issue got resolved.

Here's what I would do:

1. Do a divisional playoff. Don't make it one game. Make it a best of 7. Winner moves on to the championship series.

2. Add 1 wild card to each division. Do a best of 7 between #1 and #4 and #2 and #3.
