OOTP & MLB The Show

I posted this in the newbie forum, but I though it might get some more discussion here:

I realize this is the OOTP forums, and there is likely to be a lot of bias, but if someone could give me an objective comparison between OOTP and MLB the show franchise mode for PS4, I would be very appreciative. Thank you. I love baseball, and I want to get the best most realistic and engaging game I can...or maybe both. I just would like an honest comparison.

Your comparing apples to oranges in my opinion. OOTP is meant as a sim/stats game and the show is a actual engaging playable game, but yes obviously has statistics. Realistic yes, but there they aren't really all that similar... I have both and both deliver different results and offer different pluses and negatives. It's up to you on which style of "game" you're looking for.

What Hockey said. You want console control or do you want to be a GM?

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Other than baseball, they aren't similar. I'd buy both, but Xbox has no baseball game..

I don't understand what makes them so different...can't you be a GM in the show? I read something about franchise mode, which enables you to draft, trade and sign players, and move on with a team into the future, just as you can in Out of the Park.

Does Mlb the Show let you go back 100 years? Does The show offer as much customization as OOTP? Does The show have every minor league team, from AAA down to the rookie leagues? Does The show allow you to structure contracts the away OOTP does? Does The show have a complete financial system like OOTP does? Does OOTP offer a complete scouting system like OOTP?

The main difference is that is extremely shallow in the sim compared to OOTP. You won't see anywhere near the statistical accuracy as you would with OOTP. I own both and love both but I play OOTP when I want to run a dynasty, I play The Show when I want to play out games, usually in Road to the Show mode. You play to each game's strengths this way.

There is room for both in my gaming and I do in fact own both. As others have said you are comparing apples and oranges. OOTP will provide you with the most statistically accurate representation of baseball. The depth of both the stats and the gameplay are not matched by any other baseball game I've played. Simply put if you're looking for a realistic statistical experience OOTP is the way to go. Also if you're looking at more the GM aspect of the game, OOTP wins again.

However, if you want a graphical representation and you don't mind some statistical anomalies The show is a great game as well. I play manager mode in the show and the games do play out reasonably realistically, but the experience is MUCH more shallow that OOTP. It satisfies my desire for graphical baseball. In fact, I sometimes rather play the show than watch the game on TV.

I hope this helps.
