Player Cloning - not what it use to be?

I think this goes back to v14....

but if you clone a fictional player now, their facegen no longer clones - you get an entirely different face.

So if I clone a player to retire him and turn him into a coach, it's not the same person visually.

I don't know about the cloning issue but why do you have to clone a player to make him into a coach? I ask because when a player is retired there is an option under 'Available Actions' on their profile page to turn them into a coach.

If I want an active player to be a coach/mgr at the same time he's playing then I have to clone him.

I will log this as a bug.

In the meantime, this can be fixed manually by making a copy of the original player's facegen and renaming it to the fit the clone.

I thought I tried that but the copied facegen showed up as a smaller flat image. I'll mess with it again.

I know in my quest to master 19th century baseball accurate simulation that I am pushing the game to it's limits.

here are screenshots of the original player, then cloned player who I retired (so I could turn into a coach).

after cloning, nothing was the same for the facegen, not even facial hair - I had to manually modify beard to match original player, but as you can see - face is not the same face

also... when I turn the "retired" player into a coach, it appears his facegen changes again!

see screenshot of retired player turned into coach... at least his hair/beard color seemed to change back to black from blond/brown?

It works, as long as you don't update the image; then it will revert to the other one.

That's because the picture gets updated and uses the facegen info from the cloned player. There is no way to change this. Just make the copy of the profile pick after turning him into a coach.

But it doesn't appear to update the cloned facegen...it appears to create a new one! (when retired player is "cloned" by OOTP to make into a coach)

not sure if this is an underlying problem of facegen constantly changing on cloned players?

as you see above, 1 player cloned by me, but 3 different facegens

A cloned player is not getting all the info set properly for facegen. That is a bug, even if the design intention is for the cloned player to have a different face than the original.

I logged the bug and suggested that cloned players look like the original. If someone wants them to look different, that is easily accomplished. Right now, though if you want them to look the same, there is no option to accomplish that.

There is a way to use the fg for the fictional player. PM Bigrod he knows how to do it. you could always retire the player, turn him into a coach then unretire him but then you would have to manually input his contract back in. next time give him a real Fg so you can duplicate it. Thats what i do. i create a newMGR and since i have fg's for those players who become player/mgr's i use the same FG.
