Trading between average and hard
I'm playing as 2014 Pirates and at the trade deadline Liriano is having a great year with a 2.74 ERA. This is his last year and he's demanding 22M per for 8 years, I offered him 16-20M over 5 years until he cut off negotiations. Now I'm trying to trade him, with trades set on average I'm getting top prospects like Baez and can trade for almost anyone, this seems unrealistic. On hard I can't trade him for half star prospects and shopping him gives no players. I'd expect to be able to trade him to a contender for a 2-3 star prospect which I can do on average but not on hard. On average there are some ridiculous trades between AI teams like 0.5 star potential prospects in AAA going for star players. Everything else is on default, is there a way to change trades to meet my expectations?

That happens in real life. Baseball is a business. Why would an opposing GM trade for a guy that he knows you won't re-sign.
It's not unrealistic.

i know what you mean and I see the same thing. I'm playing my ootp13 import, back in 2012 I traded for Singleton from Astros (he wasn't as highly touted back in ootp13) but non the less he developed into a 3.5/3.0 star player, after giving him multiple chances to win a starting job he just never performed so I shopped him in the offseason and I was amazed at what I was getting offered back! For example, I got a Verlander for Singleton 1 for 1 and it wasn't the Verlander with his mega contract cause in ootp13 he didn't have that contract. I didn't do the deal, to easy of a trade. Ironically I traded him back to Houston for a young 3B who has exploded talent wise for me!

One that I personally hated was my Braves shipping a ton of talent to Tex for Tex, didn't really work out well for us.

Did you try placing Liriano on the trading block? I rarely even use the shop for player feature as it seems to only give me 1 for 1 deals, which isn't how I make trades in OOTP. If Im trading a star then I need some assets back not another MLB quality player straight up. Last edited by SirMichaelJordan; 07-11-2014 at 07:51 PM. |

I have only played OOTP14 and just purchased 15 today, but I kind of agree... some of the trades made leave me scratching my head... there certainly are some good ones but some are just straight up horrible.

That said, I prefer Hard because Average is too danged easy. Once in a while, the AI will offer you a decent trade but shopping players is definitely no bargain, usually. But when I win, I feel like I kicked some rear end in spite of this. Much more satisfying, you know?

Liriano was a 4/4 star up from 3.5 at the start of the season. On average I was offered 2-5/5 rookies/prospects while on hard I couldn't trade him for a 0.5/0.5 overaged minor leaguer. He's been on the trading block for weeks along with a few others but in the 3+ months I've been playing I've never been offered trades for a player on the block. Almost always a veteran on a bad deal for my prospects.
I always play on hard to reduce terrible trades but occasionally switch to average just to get a somewhat fair trade. It would be nice to have something in between. I wonder what easy and very easy are like. Last edited by piratwins; 07-12-2014 at 12:55 AM. |

Heh, that is a good question! One of us should test it and report back here with possibly hilarious results!

So the consensus is that for OOTP 16 somebody should suggest a trade difficulty setting - call it "difficult" or such - that falls between average and hard?

Why not just 1-10 numbers?

Haha, sadly nope I haven't watched much SportsCenter lately. I think my "issue" may be in my head... its always the same for all simulation sports games, wether they are OOTP, EA's games, 2K Sports etc is I always say to myself "that'd never happen in real life" so I consider and judge some of the AI's trades in these games. I think that makes sense, its late I need sleep! ZzZzZz
