Surviving an Avalanche (Colorado Dynasty)

First off, I hae stayed away from this game for a little while now and have seen some patches so I thought that I would give it a go again. I am going to runn a dynasty using the Avalanche, a team that I know very little about but will give it a shot. I'd also like to point out that I still have NO IDEA why this board doesn't have a dynasty thread but I will do one in the main forums.

At first look, this team could certainly compete. Jan Hejda and Erik Johnson will lead an unknown group of defense this season with solid NHLers like Andre Benoit and Corey Sarich playing a solid game helping in the defensive end of the ice. Goaltending will be key. Varlamov is a very solid goaltender and backup Giguere will play whenn needed and will do a solid job.

The forwards are lead by some standout youn players in Nathan McKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Paul Stastny and Mattt Duchene. Scoring shouldn't be an issue and guys like Jamie McGinn and Alex Tanguay will help with secondary scoring.

To start the season, going through training, Nathan McKinnon was seriously hurt, breaking his elbow and will miss the entire season. This is going to leave a massive hole in the forwards though I think we can get through with the 2 very solid lines that we have anyways. So, that being said, on with the show...

Traning camp and the start of the season

As the season draws closer, the Avs have been working hard to get into shape. Missinng McKinnon is going to be a scare but lookinng forward to someone picking it up in his absence. Going into the season, the lines are going to start with as follows:

LINE 1
G. Landeskog - M. Duchene - A. Tanguay
LINE 2
R. O'Rielly - P. Stastny - P. Parenteau
LINE 3
C. McLeod - J. Mitchell - J. McGinn
LINE 4
S. Downie - M. Cliche - D. van der Gulik

DEFENSE 1
J. Hejda - E. Johnson
DEFENSE 2
T. Barrie - C. Sarich
DEFENSE 3
M. Hunwick - A. Benoit

I personally think that this team could compete to make the playoffs, I expect around a 6th or 7th spot and hopefully make some noise in the playoffs...

Up next, the season starts

Games 1-5

GAME 1 LOSS vs Anaheim

Goals: E. Johnson (1), M. Duchene (1), J. Mitchell (1), P. Stastny (1), P. Parenteau (1)

Gave up 41 shots and were outplayed right from the start. 5 goals is nice, 6 against is not. Bad news for our D corps this game, Tyson Barrie was hurt and will be out up to 4 weeks.

GAME 2 WIN vs Nashville

Goals: A. Benoit (1), G. Landeskog (1), M. Duchene 2 (3), A. Tanguay (1)

Great bounce back game, win 5-2. Duchene is off to a quick start with 3 goals in 2 games. Great power play tonight, 3-7 We lost another player tonight as Cliche wqas hurt and will miss a couple of week. Mark Olyer was called up.

GAME 3 WIN vs Toronto

Goals: A. Tanguay 3 (4)

Tanguay took the team on his shoulders tonight scoring all 3 goals for the team in a 3-2 win. Duchene kept his hot hand going picking up 3 assists.

GAME 4 LOSS vs Boston

Goals: G. Landeskog (2), P. Parenteau (2)

Very ugly game vs the Bruins. Varlamov was given the night off and Giguere was awful at best. Nick Holden is struggling as a replacement for Barrie holding on to a -4 just that game alone. Jamie McGinn was hurt in this game but is just day to day and shouldn't miss too much time.

GAME 5 LOSS vs Washington

Goals: M. Hunwick (1)

Very good game even though we lost. Holden again was a minus and sits at a -6 for the season and needs to be replaced. Wilson is on his way back and will probably be able to go next game.

LAST 5 GAMES

Not great but ok considering the injuries and bodies that we are missingbut we can't dwell on that. Need to be better inn all aspects of the game. Tanguay has been red hot so far, leading the team in scoring and Duchene is right behind. Varlamov is 2-2 with a 3.00 gaa but has beenn very solid to start the season. Looking forward to getting the season going again...

Next up, next 5 games
