The Canadian Baseball League

I have started simming the Canadian Baseball League, starting in 1871 and going to sim until present and see what happens. I am going to try and do a write up of each season with pictures and whatever else I can do and am hopefully not boring at all. The Dynamic Evolution of the league is on to see how that goes and how often things like expansion happen. Hopefully that doesn't mess up too many things at all.

I will post as much info as I can and if there is something that you guys want to see, let me know and I can update that kind of stuff as well.

Ok here goes with the 1871 season of the Canadian Baseball League.

1871 Canadian Baseball League

The 1871 season of the new Canadian Baseball League was a great one for the Calgary Swat who finished the top of the league with 115 wins, 22 games more than the 2nd place overaall team, the Quebec City Braves. The Braves however, ended up having the last laugh with the first ever Canadian Championship, beating Calgary 3 games to 0 in the best of 5 series.

The Swat had an unreal season in '71 scoring over 1000 runs, with 1001 and hitting over .300 as a team. They didn't hit a whole lot of homeruns compared to the rest of the league but they did pretty much everything else right and basically dominated the league from start to finish.

The MVP for the league was Ed Oliver from the Ottawa Black Cats. He hit .358 for the season with 38 homers and 140 rbi for the team. He also walked 86 times and only struck out 76. Colin Chaillou from the Quebec City Braves was the Cy Young winnner for 1871. He pitched 83 games in the season, winning 43 of them and losing 31. His ERA was a 3.88 but there was a lot of offense in the league this past season. In his 649 innings pitched, he only walked 159 while striking out 492.

The Allstar teams were a pretty good mix of young and older player and the East won the All star game, 10-7.
