Clean up Scouting Database?

In Global Settings > Scouting Settings > "Scouting Report Updates" - this is new to me.

What does this function do? I didn't see a description in the manual.

A good question that deserves a bump or two.

Markus explained this to me when I was having some issues in v14. It was only added with one of the last patches in v14.

It deletes scouting information for retired players and also purges scouting reports for active players reducing them to one report per year. It can significantly reduce the size of the player.dat and retired players file. It doesnt affect scouting reports going forward, you can have/keep multiples per player.

In my online league I run it once per year to clear out older scouting reports and reduce the size on the online league file. The first time I ran it for the league the file ent from 140m to 84m. That league has 50+ seasons of history.

Edit: and after one season I ran it again and the league file went from 120m to 90m. With the ability to have scouting reports monthly for everyone there is a lot of data there. In one season our online league file grew from 84m to 120m.

My 500th thanks goes to you.

EDIT: Question, though. I remember (I'm at work now) that there is an option to keep all scouting reports. Does this conflict with or override that setting? I would imagine that the setting would rule until this function was engaged, then the game would begin all over again collecting scouting reports. My 501st thanks if you can answer that one.

Interesting... thanks! Since we use OOTPOU to track dev, it appears that the in-game tracking is of limited use, and keeping it clean would be a good idea in a league with 50 years of history.

That is what happens. You keep all reports then when you use this function it purges and then starts keeping all reports again assuming that is what you choose to do. Our league keeps all reports during the season then right after the rule 5 daft an FAs declare I cleanup the scouting database and then start accumulating reports again.

You will have to settle for my 504th thanks instead of my 501st, as promised above. I'm just a very thankful kind of guy!
