July 1st crash

I am playing on a saved game that I had pre-update.

Loaded up the saved game post-update, and played to July 1st (free agency).

The program stops at 70% processing new season, and freezes there. I resort to closing the program as It literally will sit there forever if I let it.

Is there a fix for this?

Since it's a pre-update save, likely not. While the bug that created the problem that's causing the crash may be fixed, the damage that causes the eventual crash has already been done and the game can't correct or work around it. There does seem to be a problem with July 1 in some custom-mode games in 1.6.2, so if it's a custom game that may be the cause and it's not the fault of the save (and it'll be OK once we fix whatever that issue is), but other than that possibility, it's likely that the save isn't fixable.

Is there any way to revert to the old patch? I am having the same issue with a historical game (except at 93% on that 1st July 1) that I had played all the way from the beginning to 1980. I finally have Gretzky and it does that? That is the sort of glitch that makes me never want to touch the game again.

The last patch is still available on its original download links (see this thread), but there's a good chance the save may have the same problem with it. If you'd like to upload the save file for us to have a look at, so we can see if there's anything that can be done to fix it or at least avoid the problem in the future, there are uploading instructions here, or you can put it on a public filesharing site and send me the link.
