Crashing or how to run in safe mode

My franchise that is ~30 years in is crashing after two power outages in an hour or so. It recovered fine the first time, the second time seems to have corrupted something. I guess at some point, I elected for no backups to be made. It gets to 86% of loading the game files and then ootp crashes.

I started a new league to try it out and that works fine, so it would seem it's something with the league files and not the game itself. How do I start the game in safe mode to try that out? I can't find a .exe anywhere.

Ah ha. I found safe mode. Still crashes. Any suggestions other than a support ticket?
