Rebuilding the Edmonton Oilers
Well, now that this new patch is out, I am going to attempt to rebuild the Edmonton Oilers and try and turn them into another dynasty like they were in the 80s. Not going to be easy to do with what they have and have traded away as I am going to start the league with the most current rosters that are in the game.
Losing Ales Hemsky and Nick Schultz is painful at best but hanging on to the below average draft pick Nail Yakupov is worse though he is much better in the game than he is in real life. I will try and move him for a Dman to play this season and the future. The goaltending should be solid with Scrivens and Fasth so we shouldn't have too much worry with them but if we don't shore up the D core, we could be in major trouble. Yakupov is rumoured to be on the move of course and possibly Eberle in a huge deal for a top flight Dman. |

Yakupov is a Senator
Nail Yakupov was shipped out of Edmonton today to the Ottawa Senators for Cody Ceci and Mika Zibenijad. Both playeers should fill a good role and Ceci could be that guy to play with Darnell Nurse in the future.
The Coyotes also sent 22 year old Justin Weller to the Oilers for 29 year old center Ben Eager. Not a huge move but Weller could fill a role in the depth area for the team. |

Adding another D
Alec Martinez, the young D from the Los Angeles Kings was moved today to the Oilers for Greg Chace and 2 draft picks.
Martinez is an intersting player, could be very good for us in the future |

Finally, the season is here
The Oilers don't look to be a playoff team right from the start, the center depth is very weak right now with Mika Zibenijad playing on the top line with Eberle and Hall and it goes down from there. Both Sam Gagner and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are starting the season on the IR so we will need them back to really be a decent forward unit.
On defence, things have changed a lot since I took over. Ference is still the top dog here but Cody Ceci and Anton Belov are going to need to make a big impact this season. Alec Martinez is not on the Oilers roster for now because for some unknown reason, he is still with the Kings even though I completed the trade. I have reoffered the deal so I will see that happens. Scrivens will get the majority of the work to start with and see what happens. (I will be doing this in 5 game segements. Hopefully there are no major crashes or anything) |

Games 1-5
Game 1 vs Winnipeg Jets
![]() G: David Perron (1), Cody Ceci (1) Very good start for newcomer Cody Ceci. 1g 1a for the youngster and really played well. Perron scored quickly in his debut as well. Game 2 vs Vancouver Canucks ![]() G: C. Ceci (2), J. Eberle (1), D. Perron (2) Ceci and Perron both scored again but the team just broke down horribly. Game 3 vs New Jersey Devils ![]() G: M. Arcobello (1), B. Gordon (1) Solid game played by the club but wasn't able to pull it out. Scrivens had a good game after being blown out the game before. Belov was replaced this game with Alec Martinez. Game 4 vs Montreal Canadiens ![]() G: R. Smyth (1), J. Eberle (2) Ryan Nugent-Hopkins made his return to the Oilers line up tonight but didn't help much, though he did have an assist on Eberle's goal. Viktor Fasth played in goal and played fairly well but wwe need to either stop giving up 3 goals or learn to score more than 2. Arcobello was the odd man out this game Game 5 vs Toronto Maple Leafs ![]() G: T. Hall (1), J. Eberle 2 (4), D. Perron (3) Good bounce back game. The top line played very well together. Hall with 1g 2a, Eberle with 2g and Hopkins with 3a. The D line of Cody Ceci and Alec MArtinez has been a very nice surprise so far this season and will be moved up to the top pairing for the next bit to see how they do.
