How many interleague games do you want? Is 16 IL games enough? Do you want an All-Star Game?

File is attached. 148 games, unbalanced. A few notes:

1) It's based off the 2013 MLB schedule, except that a 19th game against intradivision foes (10th game at one site vs. intradivision foes) and a 7th vs. interdivision foes (fourth game at one site) in the same league were erased.

2) The schedule actually starts on Game Day 5 because I wiped out four days of the season. The four days I erased were the four-game series between "natural" rivals. That was the final piece to getting down to 148. From there, I just set the Game Dates before that period back four days. I can put those four games back and put you at 152, if you prefer that.

3) Schedule breakdown is:
  • 18 games vs. 4 intradivision foes=72
  • 6 games vs. 10 interdivision foes=60
  • 3 games vs. 4 interleague opponents and 4 vs. 1 IL opp. (all in same division)=16
Please let me know if you have any problems with it and I'll try to help.

This would be great. This has an all-star game? Also can I still keep my custom play-offs?

Should have an All-Star Game scheduled.

As for your custom playoffs, I think you set that before you start the season, so that shouldn't be affected one way or the other. To be safe, I'd set the custom playoffs option and then load the sked.

What's your process for putting together a schedule?

It depends. For this particular request, the league and divisional alignments were the same as MLB, just the number of games requested were different. So I just used the existing 2013 schedule, loaded it in the game's schedule editor, took a look at home-away breakdowns and removed the extra games. I used the schedule evaluation tool to keep an eye on games scheduled for each team as I make changes.

In other cases, if it's an unique alignment, then I figure out the numbering matchups in Excel or Word (or sometimes by writing them down), making sure the math works out and then I start building from scratch.

If I build a sked from scratch, I'll erase the schedule the game loads, and start scheduling games in the editor based on the number matchups. I find it easier than trying to parse through all of the numbers in the schedule file in Notepad++. If I need to change game times in bulk, then I'll do search and replace in Notepad++ and then load the schedule back into the game.

If the game's scheduling system was based on geographical factors (such as keeping LA, San Diego and San Francisco in the old six-team NL West scheduled at home at the same time as much as possible to accommodate West Coast trips) or if you knew you could set up such geographical factors, then I'd be a lot more anal about building from scratch. But the game's scheduling system works off numbering factors and a team can be assigned a different number just by reloading the schedule, thus completely changing a team's schedule. So logical geographical traveling partners and things like that in a schedule are harder to guarantee, so I don't obsess about it too much.

To sum it up, I don't re-invent the wheel if it doesn't need to be re-invented.

Use Bigrod's schedule creator! You can create the league structure, add your games, and then it creates the schedule for you! So if you wanted a BOS/BAL matchup, the schedule would automatically create that schedule line for you. l

Yeah, I'm curious to try it out. When I tried to look at it a few days ago, my Excel was having trouble with it (EDIT: Just figured out that's why it wasn't working. I'm supposed to use Open Office. I'm a dummy). I'm gonna take some time in the next few days to try it out.
