Ridiculous Injury

I've had it with these stupid OOTP injuries being completely unbelievable and having no remote basis in reality.

"PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux had surgery on his right index finger after getting injured on a golf course in Ottawa.

Giroux sustained tendon damage when a golf club shattered and splintered into his finger Thursday. It's unknown what caused the club to shatter."

Maybe, if OOTP peeps spent some time looking at real news stories then the ones generated by by the game would be more realistic.

Somebody fix this.

Claude Giroux of Philadelphia Flyers hurt golfing, out 5-6 weeks - ESPN

The guy plays hockey, and hurts himself on a golf course... go figure.

Turn off story lines!!! Everybody knows that anything out of the ordinary is stupid and unrealistic.

That's a good one... right up there with Joel Zumaya having elbow soreness from playing too much Guitar Hero.

Or the soccer player who dropped a jar of mayonnaise on his foot and damaged ligaments.

I like the interesting injuries - my only issue with them is when they come at terrible times, like the playoffs. I had a starter hurt for a week or 2 in the middle of a playoff round because he hurt himself boating, I think. I mean, I know he started a day or 2 ago, and wasn't scheduled to pitch, but I doubt I would let my players go on a fishing trip the morning of a game.

For the record, Jonathan LuCroy was injured last season for months because his wife dropped a suitcase on his hand. The Brewers also had a reliever a few years back that cut his finger open with salad tongs. It happens.

And Brian Anderson of the DBacks burning his neck and shoulder trying to iron his shirt while he was wearing it.

Point being, most of the off-field injuries I've seen might seem unrealistic, but they happen. I wouldn't say they have no basis in reality. Furthermore, I like them...as long as it's somebody elses guy.

Most, if not all, of the off field injuries in OOTP are based on a real life incident.

Mitch Walding w/ broken rib, left side. Result of a stress fracture he's had for a while. Broke it fully getting off clubhouse couch on Sun.
Makes my starting SS falling off the treadmill story (twice in three years) all the more realistic...

Unsurprisingly, someone can't tell an injury from a storyline.

And rare events should occur rarely. Common sense.

See also, The Infamous Steve Sparks Phone Book Incident, which sounds like the name of some hipster indie band.

I can sympathize with these guys now. Today, I injured myself making a left hand turn while driving. Diagnosis: wrenched elbow, DTD 3 days, 19% performance loss.
