Help with starting new game

I have a game or universe or league what ever you call it. I want to start a new game using the one i playing right now. that way i can make some changes to the new game and leave the old the way it is.. Can this be done and if it can how do i do this

I think you'll probably need to provide more info on what you want to do. However, I can say that you can copy your league folder (xxxx.lg is the folder name, with xxxx representing whatever you named your league - the folder would be in your saved games folder) - rename it to something else, and then you'll have two copies of the same league, as of the same date. You can then play both of them, taking them in separate directions in terms of rules, expansion, whatever...

I was also thinking that maybe i could save my game as a quick start and then start a new game using it, would that also work?

I'm not sure if it's a quickstart or a template that you'd want. At any rate, I suggest checking out these threads:
