Player's Happiness
A lot of times I'll start a season and I'll have some young players that aren't quite ready for the big time and I want to send them down for some development. But when I send them down, they become unhappy and their development slows (which defeats the purpose of me sending them down). I wad wondering if there was anyway I can prevent this from happening or is it something I'll just have to suck up and deal with? I dont want to keep the prospect as a healthy scratch because he'll still be unhappy because of lack of playing time (again slowing his progress and development). I would like to develop my prospects without "throwing them to the wolves" if at all possible, but if it cannot be avoided, then so be it.

For your information, I think the same is in OOTP.
And would you be happy, if you, proud NHL player, would be sent in minor league, as they say, "for development"? Development? Huh! They just hate me! |

Probably, if I had early success in the NHL (i.e Nathan Mckinnon, Tomas Hertl). But if I played 15 games with only 3 points and I'm looking like more of a liability than an asset, then I only have myself to blame and cant really argue the decision.

Very few pro athletes are that objective when it comes to their own skills.

The happiness/morale and player role systems need some work, that code has been around for a while and isn't really integrated completely into newer stuff like contract and development changes. That'll get some attention during the match engine patch.

The way I see it, I'd rather him go down and get some playing time there than have him a healthy scratch because not only will he be unhappy, he wont be getting any game time experience.
But I do see where everyone is coming from |

There definitely needs to be a morale system and like Jeff's says I'm sure there are some adjustments to be made.
I've read numerous reports of young players being disappointed when being sent down over the years and starting the season slowly, so the game is on the right track there (though it shouldn't be every player). One thing I've noticed is they take forever to recover their morale. Usually when I read one of those reports it mentions that they've started to pick up their play after a few weeks or a month or so. |
