The Montreal Screw Job
I realize maybe sports entertainment may be too much for those purists to be in the sports talk forum, but it's make believe anyway so who cares?
Anyway, spent yesterday afternoon watching this on Netflix: Amazon.com: WWE: Greatest Rivalries - Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart [Blu-ray]: Shawn Michaels, Bret Hit Man Hart, Triple H, Jim The Anvil Neidhart, Marty Jannetty, British Bulldog, Undertaker, -: Movies & TV . Must see TV if you are a rasslin fan, specially if you have seen the Wrestling With Shadows documentary. On the surface it looks like typical cheezy WWE video fare, but it's actually a very serious attempt to probe into the whole Brett Hart/Shawn Michaels story culiminating in a fascinating discussion of what was happening behind the scenes of the whole Montreal Screwjob thing. I found Hart and Michaels very open and candid. They were also not afraid to accept blame and responsibility for their own mistakes leading up to the infamous event. I think the big takeaway I got was the Wrestling With Shadows movie is accurate as it stands, but does not provide the proper backdrop/context to appreciate what was really going on. No, it wasn't an elaborate work as many have speculated, though I do now tend to think based on what Hart and Michaels said that McMahon must have pulled a lot of strings to get the narrative on that movie a certain way. McMahon wanted to come off as the villain while making the two wrestlers appear as innocent as possible. Mission achieved. Watch it if you are a fan, enjoy it. Not often two veterans of that business speak so openly about the true nature and behind the scenes part of it.

It's a good watch. The Screw Job has been talked to death among most fans, but like you said it was nice to get some more details and some closure on the entire thing.

I think Shawn also proved that he did learn and change from this entire situation. His run in the WWE from 02-11 he did a lot of jobbing and I dont believe he even had a run as champion.
It is great that they eventually all worked this out and all seem to be happy with how life turned out. |

Why the need for another thread when there already is an WWE Network thread?

J/k I am sure if it bothers a mod they will move it. Its not like people arent already opening threads for each of their favorite baseball teams already so I guess I dont see the problem. The forum isnt too hard to keep up with. Some days we are lucky to get a new thread. Last edited by jbergey22; 02-24-2014 at 04:05 PM. |
