Historical replays and stadium effects.
I started a historical sim last night. After reading the HOB and HOB2 threads by Tiger Fan, I finally broke down and was like I'm going to try it.
I'm using Scott's Revised DB and Tiger Fan's era settings as a starting point. The biggest difference is that I'm using modern stadiums. As Tiger Fan points out in his very helpful posts, the results my vary using his era settings and may need to be tinkered with. What I have noticed the most is that by using modern ballpark the AVG are extremly low. For instance, in 1917, Ty Cobb is the career leader in BA, but with .297. He holds the highest AVG in a season at .340. Since for the most part, the only big difference in the design of the league so far are the stadiums, I can only assume they are what is causing the seemingly low numbers. All other stats are acceptably in line with what they were actually. It is actually kinda cool, as I'm not going to expand and the teams will remain in their "modern" ballparks for the life of this league. I was just surprised at the impact that this had. Other notable surprises, Walter Johnson, debatebly the greatest pitcher of all time, doesn't look like he's gonna ever make it out of the minors. In the 20's the offense in baseball started to change, in large part due to Babe Ruth's presence. I'm curious to see what the numbers will start to look when the era settings get to that point. Sorry if this belongs in the dynasty forum, move it if you want. It just seemed a general comment to me about an aspect of OOTP. WOW, the effects of stadiums. In case I want to do this again at some point with the parks that are historically accurate, does anyone have a suggestion as to where to find the best? Thanks ahead of time. |

I still use Frohike's Stadium pack. He has yearly changes to stadiums as far as the AVG, 2B, 3B, HRs, etc for the park. I also use my Era calculator so that it will adjust things for the changes that happen to the ballparks each year. The combination of the two gives me results that are right on the money after 10 to 20 year, but in any given season the results do fluctuate. But it all works itself out.

I will d/l the stadium pack, thanks.
I think I want to do 3 seperate history sims. 1) The one I mentioned above. 2)The exact same thing but with the mentioned stadium pack 2)using the stadium pack and your era calculator, which by the way I have already downloaded because I knew it would be invaluable for things like this. Thanks for the info and your great utility. While I'm at it thanks to dave/stickware for your scheduler utility, has saved me ALOT of time and effort in not having to manually create schedules. |
