Development Destruction

Several times as a general-manager I've called players up to the professional level before they were ready. From my experience, if you do this for even just one single season, the players development will be destroyed completely in some cases. Realistically speaking, I don't think that would happen. Certainly players need time to develop in the minor leagues, but if I try to 'un-do' the move by sending them back to the minors, they shouldn't have lost all their potential because of one rushed promotion.

This has not been my experience. Maybe a fresh faced 18 year old with 3/1/2 (of 10), but I often call up 22 year olds with 5/5/5 without it negatively impacting them.

anthony gose is a prime example so far that it does. when sent back down all year he had a bad attitude that he should be with the big club...

A mental fortitude adjustor would be nice. Perhaps having it play off of the player's work ethic and intelligence ratings? I am completely ignorant in relation to programming so I don't know how tough that would be to add.

In some cases it should still be fatal though. That's just the way it is sometimes. There are many real life examples of guys who got the call too early only never to be heard from again.

From a personal standpoint I am very guarded with how soon I promote a player from any level for the reason that you have pointed out. I seem to make most of my mistakes when promoting from Rookie league to Short A.

To take the aspect of potential development failure out of the game would be a negative in my opinion. A little fine tuning is all that is needed.
