Games not made up...
One of the "little" things that has always bothered me is that all seasons always see all games completed. As a result, you never see half games in the final standings.
We've discussed ad-nausea about the difficulties for having real rainouts and made up games - which if we were to do this right, would have to be added to the game to accomplish this event. I have, however, worked out a method that will result in the same thing... At the start of each year, randomly pick 0 to 10 games from the schedule that I will delete and move to the day after the season closes. The choice of 0-10 games is a rough approximation in a ~160 game schedule as to how many games are not completed per season. As I close in on the last day of the season, I determine if these games need to be made up to determine 1st place or wildcards - and if not I delete them. If they do need to be made up, I leave them on the schedule and play them out. In my case, this is a fairly important need so I go to the trouble to do this. In your case, it may not

That's probably the ideal way to handle it. It'd be neat if OOTP's scheduling engine would improve enough to allow this to be a possibility (as an option, obviously).
I personally could care less, but having the option for this feature for "immersion" would be great for those that want it. Although I'd definitely love the improvements to the scheduling engine that'd have to come with it. |

In my historical league that started in 1890, I did something similar - randomly deleting around 10-15 games from the schedule. I would then have them made up during the last week of the season if they involved teams chasing a pennant. But once I hit 1901 I just used the "as-played" schedules, and then I still do reschedule make up games, if they are needed. That gives me the rainouts, etc., and the half-game differences in the standings, etc.

Two suggestions; make the choice less random regarding cities and do it by month with more occurring in April, September and May.
I usually poo-poo these ideas but I like this for some reason. My big concern; how does OOTP handle double headers in September?

One thing I do to make the playoff schedule more realistic is, once my playoff teams have been determined, I check the actual weather on that date at Weather History & Data Archive | Weather Underground. Historical weather reports go back to sometime in the 40's for most cities. And if I have a series taking place before that (like, say 1910), I'll just randomly pick a later year (where the forecast is available) and call that 1910's weather.
