MLB Quickstart Player Ratings

I was wondering how player ratings for the MLB Quickstart are determined.

As I understand it, a hardworking group of volunteers manually enter all the data for each MLB player and Minor League player using baseballreference.com stats for the previous season.

Is this accurate?

If you have a specific question, I'd be happy to answer it, but the process is too complicated for me to want to write up a long post describing all of it.

Using projections. There, done.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

The MLB players are rated using PECOTA's projections, Wolf's right on that.

The MiLB player's ratings are a bit more complicated, just like injury log said.

Are you concerned about something specific or just generally wondering?

No, I did not have anything specific. Just wondering what is involved and what data sources are used.

A friend that plays another baseball sim asked me about it, and I realized that I didn't really understand how the player ratings are determined.

We use a lot of different data sources. Pretty much anything that's available, especially for MiLB guys and draft picks.

We pretty much get all the stats from baseball ref.

The MLB players are all rated based on their PECOTA projections.

For milb/draft ratings we also use Clay Davenports projections/translations, scouting reports from Baseball America, John Sickels, Keith Law, Perfect Game etc.

Really whatever we can find to give us enough info to come up with decent ratings. The MiLB and draft/international ratings are really part science and part art since we don't have any fully reliable projection system like PECOTA to go on for most of those players.
