defensive subs question

As i was getting sick of losing games in the bottom of the 9th due to fielding issues, I picked up some plus defenders and put them in as defensive subs on the depth chart. I sim all my games, and the AI does not put in defensive subs. Is there a setting somewhere else for this as well?

thanks.

If anything, the AI tends to over-use defensive subs, no matter what settings you use. So, there is probably something else going on with your team.

Keep in mind that the defensive subbing only happens when the score is very close. Other than that, it's hard to know what to suggest.

I love when the AI pinch hits for a defensive sub when you have the lead.

I did notice that. Is there any way around that? I would like the def subs to come in no matter what if i assign them to. Not having the subs tends to make my games close.

The only adjustment you can make is in League Setup/Strategy, where there is an adjustment for Defensive Substitutions. You can set this for Often or Very Often. This is a league-wide change. All the teams in your league will be doing defensive subs much more often.

If the teams are already doing this as often as seems realistic, except your team, then the problem is specific to your team. That's where it gets hard to guess about without a lot more info. There is no setting specific to your team that you can change.

Actually there is in your team strategy. On the right you can set your over-all team strategy to favour "defense", which should, imo, be the equivalent to the manager using defensive subs more often.

I could well be wrong, but when I used to play online I used that strategy a lot and I found when checking boxscores that my starters were getting subbed out more often for defensive replacements in late innings.

Also, on your line-ups page there is a column for "defensive sub", which I always made sure to fill out. So I think that does have an effect specific to your team.

Again, this is based on my experience using it, not 100% sure if that's how it's coded in game.

No, those sliders only affect roster decisions. That is why those sliders are in a separate box. In general, those sliders are determined by the strategy preferences of the gm, on AI teams.
