Confused with draft Scouting

In the first round, had the 27th pick. The top rated prospect based on OSA was rated 62/80, however my "outstanding" director of scouting did not like him, and was rating him about 30th of remaining prospects at about 28/80,

However when i asked him for his recommendation he recommends this guy...

i know it's a guess game, but this made no sense... should i fire the scout?

Scouting director recommendations are a little weird (or more than a little, depending on who you ask). I'm not at all sure how the AI determines who the suggestion is.

Personally, I don't use it all that often. What I usually do is start at the highest overall per my scout and start looking at component ratings until I find one with potentials I like. There are too many variables that go into calculating the current/potential overall ratings to make them useful for anything more than a rough guide.

thanks, that's reassuring. i have followed the guy the scout recommended, and he is still mindling in short A 2 years later, with little growth. Even the OSA has started lowering his ratings.

(scout ended up retiring so i didn't have to fire him)

One particular thing I've noticed is that scouts don't value MRs and CLs very highly. Which isn't terribly surprising in itself - I don't myself, and you probably don't either.

The interesting thing is that they ALSO don't value SPs who are only likely to make the majors as relievers very highly. Guys who for whatever reason are just "borderline starters," but still classified as SP by the system. Once I realized these guys were just relief pitchers in disguise, my scout "dropping down" to seemingly-random one-star guys made more senses to me.
