Minor League, No Financials--But There's A Player Payroll? Huh?
I created an unaffiliated minor league with financials disabled.
So I get to the end of the first season, and I see that each team has a player payroll with lots of money in it, even though the teams have no gate receipts, the individual players are shown as being unpaid, and even the coaches' pay is negligible, certainly not enough to add up to the total player payroll listed for each team. Does anyone know what the deal-i-o is with that? I want to move these teams into a new major league in a few years, and I don't want them coming in broke. |

I can't answer your question, although you could always just figure that the players are getting some kind of per diem that could be construed as "payroll".
BTW, how did you get the game to show pounds instead of dollars? And does that affect every game you create? |

Did you create the league first, and then turn off financials?

Whatever the reason for the teams showing a payroll, if you're planning on moving teams from a league without financials to one with financials, I would advise doing some editing regardless.
In brief, you'll want to look at, and change the following (once you move a team over) to what you want to guarantee nothing crazy happens: 1.) Market sizes 2.) Cash on hand 3.) Pre-existing balances (i.e. monies owed to players for contracts that should haven't existed...I think you'll just be able to edit this down to 0 if need be.) 4.) Contracts (I think if you just move a minor league team to the majors all the contracts will be for the major league minimum. IIRC, there is not a function to assign fictional contracts to a single team.) |

That's good advice, goroyals, thanks. I'm actually just going to re-designate the league as a major league when the time comes.

In that case, definitely use the functions to assign contracts to all players in the league and to assign fictional financials to all teams. This will give you a good baseline, and no one should be hemorrhaging money. You'll still have to make sure to edit the market sizes, however.

Why changes the market sizes? They're the same teams playing in the same markets just moving from one league to another.

I exported the rosters and manually put in some salaries based on ratings, but that was a slow process. What if I had not done that? If I had let it go through without a change, would they all have played as amateurs? Or is there a better easier way to make sure teams I am moving in will have paid players on Opening Day? |
