About a new member of our community
I have been a OOTP player, and a member of this community off and on for quite a while. I introduced my Grandson (Poulin33) to the game recently, and he, much like myself, has fallen in love with the game. He even joined an online that I am in thinking he can beat the Old Timer (not going to happen)! Dylan was a tremendous High School and American Legion Baseball player, and before I go any further, I will let you know that he is doing well as he approaches his 20th birthday in February. Dylan lost his opportunities for College scholarships, and who knows what else, when he was stricken with heart disease. Here is a link to one of the articles written about him in the newspapers around here if you are interested:
Mass. student defies heart woes to enjoy baseball | The Portland Press Herald / Maine Sunday Telegram This is a kid who hit a Homerun in each of his first 2 at-bats as a 17 yr old Legion player and went on to have 17 hits in his first 20 at-bats. Not a bad start!! He loves the game of baseball and hopes to keep in it at some capacity (he would love to be a scout, or possibly coach). I just thought I would write this to give you a little insight to Poulin33, as I am very proud of him, both as a ballplayer and as a Human Being that has had to deal with adversity. My avatar is a picture of him in a high school game. Last edited by sabrejet27; 01-18-2014 at 02:40 PM. Reason: add a line |

Thanks for sharing the background on Dylan. I hope he enjoys OOTP as much as we do.
While it is heartbreaking to hear of a talented athlete's career being taken away so young I am grateful that the doctor's were able to diagnose the condition prior to there being an unexpected tragedy. PS I hope he kicks your butt in the online league! |

Yes, thanks for sharing this great story. He sounds like a great kid, a grandson to be proud of indeed.
I'm confused about something, though. You say he's a new member of this community, with the identity Poulin33? I'm asking only because I went to look for him in our member list and he is not there under that name. EDIT: The heck with OOTPB. We'll be rooting for Dylan just in general!

IIRC you don't show up there until you have 10 posts.

You must mean on the membership list because you see folks with less posts than that on the boards.

By the way, I recommend folks to read that article all the way to the end. This kid has the right stuff.

thanks for the well wishes for Dylan. (I'm still going to have to win the division each year or I'll never hear the end of it!) He's going to make a great scout for some team some day.

It might be because of my son's autism that I know holds him back from all he could do in life but any time I see a medical issue stopping a young man or woman from being able to pursue their dreams it just breaks my heart. I'm glad they found it in time to treat it but I hurt for the nights that he's going to be sitting down watching a ballgame and those broken dreams come back to try and haunt him. I just pray that he finds peace with it and was glad to see he could have that senior season to end his high school career where it should...on the diamond. |
