Why was thread moved?

Why was the thread on baseball team nicknames moved to off-topic and not sports?

I can understand moving it from the general discussions, but it's about sports, certainly not off-topic.

I can not access that thread at all by now. Not that it was a sensible proposal, but I like to shake my head in disbelief at times.

It should obviously have gone to Talk Sports. And the complaint thread about OOTP 13 had been left active in this forum.

Sometimes I think the mods here do everything randomly.

I agree. I don't see what's "off-topic" about a discussion on MLB team nicknames.

I just read through that post. Looks like it was moved to the off-topic forum because it devolved into a discussion about what is and isn't an ethnic slur. It's five pages long now and the last serious discussion about team nicknames was on page 3.

It seems that was the intent of the thread to begin with, since the one who started the thread brought up the controversial subject rather quickly. If not, its inevitability of it devolving was pretty obvious.

Exactly why I asked for it to be closed or moved. The OP made an insanely offensive post on the second page that should've been enough to get the thread deleted. At least the mods got rid of that post.

I only skimmed what's been written since it was moved, but it appears to be a civil and genuine discussion about what is and isn't offensive. It's actually a much better discussion than it was when it was still here.
