World Setup / MiLB Modifiers

I had a question, before I go through the work of setting this up.

I want to have a world using the default roster set, but make some changes to the minor leagues. I'd like to limit the total leagues in the minors to 4, with 30 teams in each league in the same format as the MLB. Basically 4 minor league levels that would exactly mirror the MLB parent league.

Each franchise would have a team at AAA, AA, A, and Rookie. Each of those leagues would play a 162 game schedule like the parent MLB league and all leagues would begin on April 1 each year.

I see a few issues aside from the amount of work it will take.

1. When deleting the other teams (i.e. short season, etc) it will release those players. Would it be best to setup the 4 leagues I want, play in commish mode and manually move players off those teams that will be deleted onto one of the 4 leagues that will be kept and then delete those teams?

2. I've been told that minor league modifiers are off. If I want stats to closely mirror the MLB numbers, would I simply use the same modifier and stat settings as are present in the MLB settings. Also, what do I do with the check boxes for Auto Adjust league totals and Auto control in game engine?

3. Are there any other settings that should be different in the minors vs the majors?

I have nearly exactly the same setup as you, with two perceived differences:
  • Mine is fictional.
  • I set mine up from scratch, whereas it sounds like you are taking an existing MLB format and editing it down.
So, bearing that in mind, here are my offered answers:
  1. If you have the time and are willing to do the work, I would advise this course of action, yes. It sounds like you want maximum control over the process whereas just deleting teams, releasing players, and depending upon the AI to pick the survivors may not be to your liking.
  2. When I set my league up, I CHOSE the same minor league levels as you, four for each parent team: AAA, AA, A, and Rookie. Now again, I play fictional (and I have been accused here of being too lax in my approach to the game, a virtual village idiot ), but I am satisfied with my minor leagues with the game default modifiers and stats.
  3. Well, it may make me the village idiot, but in your situation with a very normal and familiar setup ("30 teams in each league in the same format as the MLB"), I would advise trusting the game defaults for all settings. This includes the stats which you may be worried about with a 162-game schedule instead of the usual 144 games or less played in the minors. The game uses the stats as advisory and will adjust results according to schedule length, IIRC.
So says the village idiot. Let's see if anyone wishes to take issue with my trusting approach.

Deja:

Do you have the quickstart for yours? Do all your minor leagues play 162 game schedules? Do your stats mirror your major league stats?

No, as I said above:

And, my minors play 144, 140, 140, and 68 games respectively. Yet, notice from the screen prints below that the stats do not change from one level to the next (the modifiers do, however). This indicates to me that, once again, the game takes these stats (a.k.a. "league totals") as advisory and adjusts actual results according to schedule length.

EDIT: Note that these screens are from a game in 1911. I am playing historical fiction; fictional players but importing financial and league strategy every season.
