Tribe World Series Champs! Now what?

In year 2 as the Tribe missed the playoffs in 2013, made just a few free agent signings and won the series in 2014. I am pretty excited as I am currently simming as GM only.

I only lost 1 game in the playoff run, which is pretty amazing as Brantley and Bourn both got hurt in the 1st game of the playoffs and I was sure it was season over.

The problem, how do I possibly keep the team together if the owner isn't going to give me more money? Am I doomed to watch the team get blown up in the offseason?

Look at how the Marlins rebuilt in the late nineties. Maybe that can help you decide what to do.

now you know why I do long term contracts to keep the core players together just like what the indians did in the 90s.

Congratulations for being successful with my Tribe - I haven't achieved a World Series title yet on the 2013 QS mostly due some crash issues with several tries :-(It is hard to say what you have to do without knowing who you signed for the 2014 season, but I would try to build a team around pitchers Trevor Bauer, Zach McAllister (Masterson if his price tag is OK) and players like Santana, Kipnis, Chisenhall and Lindor. Swisher and Bourn should be traded at some point, I myself would try to get some return for Cabrera after the 2013 season (depending on Lindor's progress) rather then losing him to free agency. Chris Perez is a lock to be traded as well since a club like Cleveland can't afford to pay a closer his kind of salary. I also use some of the middle infield prospects (minors are full with good young guys at 2B and SS with virtually nothing at most other positions) to acquire cheap serviceable guys at first or in the OF and concentrate heavily on pitching in the draft(s).

So it looks like Perez and Swisher are the two biggest causalities to the salary purge. I got very solid production out of both, but the Tribe just can't afford to have $25 million tied up in two players.

Bauer has been an absolute beast for me, he finished 18-9 in the 2014 season and was my ace in the playoffs. I am unsure if I can keep Masterson at $7 million, odd how the real hard part is not so much winning one, but two.
